About Nathan

I'm living with a spinal cord injury due to being shot when I was 12 years old.

At the time I was told by doctors that I would never be able to breathe on my own or move anything from my neck down after my injury. I was at my local hospital for a month or so. They started doing breathing tests and I was breathing 100% on my own. Then I was just laying there in bed trying to move whatever I could and I noticed a small muscle in my right that kept moving. I showed the doctors and my mom. My mom went home and told my neighbor the news.

"I struggled from depression and extreme anger. I totally wanted to give up."

My neighbor knew someone who was a shriner. They set everything up for me to go to the Shriners hospital in Chicago. After 3-4 months of occupational and physical therapy I started to be able to move my right arm. When I got home from the hospital is when I really struggled. I struggled from depression and extreme anger. I totally wanted to give up. Thankfully I had others telling me I can get through this. Sure enough they were right. I'm making the best of my injury and I want to help others in my situation live life to the fullest. That's why I started this foundation. I want to help those living with spinal cord injuries like mine look on the bright side and live life to the fullest as I got the support I needed to get through this.
